Friday, May 24th, 1974.  Hempfield 2, Lebanon 1

Hempfield won their first ever Lancaster-Lebanon League Baseball Championship behind an 8 inning complete game from pitching ace Steve Lawrence.  Extra innings were necessary after both teams finished their 7 offensive innings without scoring a run.

In the top of the 8th, Kurt Usner led off with a triple to right center field.  He scored on Steve Lawrence's ground ball to shortstop, which was misplayed, allowing Lawrence to reach first base.  Lawrence advanced to second on a passed ball and scored on Harry Fuhrman's single to center.  In the bottom of the 8th, Lawrence allowed a lead off double and then recorded an out on an infield ground out.  After allowing another double, Rick Neiss was brought in to get the final two outs.  He was aided by his defense.  The first batter Neiss faced hit a sinking line drive to left but Jeff Hengst made a brilliant diving catch for the second out and the runner at second was unable to advance.  Then, the final out was recorded on a line drive.
