May 21, 2018:  Governor Mifflin 5, Hempfield 4

Governor Mifflin jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the 1st inning, added single runs in the 4th and 5th innings, and held on for a 5-4 victory in the first round of the PIAA District 3, 6A tournament.  It was a rematch of starting pitchers from each teams' first game of the season - Joe Adametz for Mifflin and Justin Lichtenwalner for Hempfield.

The host Mustangs jumped on the scoreboard early, plating three unearned runs as a Hempfield error was sandwiched around three singles.  Ben Myers' single in the 4th inning scored Mike Franks who reached on an infield single to start the inning.  In the 5th, Justin DelVecchio's solo home run to left would prove to be the decisive run for Mifflin.

After leaving runners on base in the 2nd, 3rd and 5th innings, Hempfield got on the scoreboard in the 6th inning.  Ty Vaughn walked to lead off the inning and scored when Justin Lichtenwalner doubled to left center.  Nick Fiore followed with a single and, one batter later, Luke Fiore also singled to bring home Hempfield's second run.  Nick Fiore would score later in the inning to bring the score to 5-3.  In the 7th, Mifflin retired the first two batters before Vaughn reached again on a walk and Lichtenwalner was hit by a pitch.  Nick Fiore singled again, scoring Vaughn and Christian LaBarbera was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Luke Fiore hit a hard ground out to third base to end the game.

Hempfield finishes the season 10-11 overall.  The Black Knights were 9-7 in League Play, 1-3 in Non-League Play, and 0-1 in the post season.

May 7, 2018:  Hempfield 9, Penn Manor 0

Justin Lichtenwalner followed up Christian LaBarbera's efforts on Friday the week before with a complete game of his own - the shut out version.  It was Hempfield's first shut out of the year.  Hempfield remains undefeated in games when they do not allow a run.

Lichtenwalner allowed three hits, two walks and struck out six.  He recorded 21 outs in an efficient 81 pitches.  Hempfield converted outs throughout the afternoon without committing an error.  The Black Knights were solid up the middle with C.J. Saylor leading the infield defense and Seth Constein canvassing the far reaches of J.K. Mechanical Stadium's cavernous outfield gaps - fittingly, the last out of Hempfield's regular season fell into Constein's glove while on the run in right center field.

Hempfield scored three runs in the 2nd inning when Luke Fiore and Seth Constein reached base on a walk and hit by pitch.  Fiore scored on C.J. Saylor's double, and he and Constein scored on Cole Houser's double to left.  Hempfield put runners aboard in the 3rd and 4th but were not able to plate further runs until the 5th.  In that 5th inning Hempfield defied probabilistic odds when Ty Vaughn, Justin Lichtenwalner, Nick Fiore and Christian LaBarbera reached on consecutive singles.  Conner Waughtel and C.J. Saylor plated runs on RBI walks while three other runs scored on Comet errors.

The JV Knights were winners by a score of 4-0 and finish the regular season with a 17-3 record.  Congratulations to the JV Knights and Coaches Eager, Gailor and Matthew.

With the win, Hempfield improves to 9-7 in League Play and 10-10 overall.

The win is the 782nd for the Hempfield Baseball Program.

May 4, 2018:  Hempfield 14, Warwick 2

A complete game.  Hempfield's Christian LaBarbera pitched, the defense converted outs, the offense showed up to work and the runners ran the bases.

LaBarbera pitched a complete game (5 inning) victory for Hempfield, striking out four and walking one.  He allowed seven hits.  Warwick plated a run in the 3rd inning when John Seibert and Jeffrey Kline singled to open the frame; Seibert reaching 3rd base on an outfield error and scoring on an RBI ground out by lead off hitter Bryce Martin.  The second run scored in the top of the 5th as Kline singled again, followed by a single from Bruce Martin, to put two on and none out.  Kline advanced to 3rd on a fielders choice ground out and scored on an RBI sacrifice fly off the bat of Daegen Young.

Hempfield scored 8 runs in the first inning as C.J. Saylor and friends banged out 8 hits and sent 12 batters to the plate.  Hempfield put two runners aboard in the 2nd inning but could not tally any runs.  In the 3rd the Black Knights batted around again, scoring 5 runs on two hits and taking advantage of a hit batter and two Warwick errors.  Hempfield added a run in the bottom of the 4th when Ty Vaughn's sacrifice fly brought home C.J. Saylor for the 14th run.  It was the most runs scored by Hempfield since plating 19 runs on April 3, 2017 vs. J.P. McCaskey.

C.J. Saylor, Cole Houser, Nick Fiore and Conner Waughtel had multi-hit games for the Black Knights while Ty Vaughn, Justin Lichtenwalner, Luke Fiore, Seth Constein and Nick Bair all reached base to help the offensive efforts.  Most importantly, the Black Knights only struck out one time during the contest.  Dating back to last season, it was the 3rd time that Hempfield struck out only once during the game (the other two being against J.P. McCaskey in a 6-1 win on April 28, 2017 and earlier this season vs. Elizabethtown in a 5-2 win on April 12, 2018 (for those keeping track at home)).

The JV Knights were winners by a score of 4-2.

With the win, Hempfield improves to 8-7 in League Play and 9-10 overall.

The win is the 781st for the Hempfield Baseball Program.

May 2, 2018:  Cedar Crest 3, Hempfield 1

Dan Mancil and Ty Vaughn combined for one of the rarest feats in modern high school baseball:  two pitchers throwing complete games for their respective teams.  Mancil finished seven innings and allowed four hits, struck out four and walked none.  Mancil allowed one hit in the first three innings and ran in to trouble in the 4th.  Cole Houser tripled to right center field to lead off the inning and scored on an RBI double off the bat of Nick Fiore. Christian LaBarbera followed with a single to left but the Black Knights stranded runners on the corners.  After LaBarbera's single, Mancil retired ten straight batters to end the game.

Ty Vaughn was every bit as impressive as dominant as Mancil.  He allowed seven hits, struck out two and walked none.  He obtained 21 outs on only 79 pitches:  22 balls and 57 strikes.  Cedar Crest scored a run in the first inning when Logan Horn was hit by a pitch and reached second on an errant pick off throw.  He reached third on a sacrifice fly to right field and scored on an RBI ground out off the bat of Nate Trovinger.  In the fourth inning the Falcons scored two more when Nate Cavic singled to right field and scored on Jonathan LaBarbera's home run to left.  After the home run, Vaughn retired 11 of 13 batters and allowed only two more hits on the afternoon.

The JV Knights were winners by a score of 12-2.

Hempfield is now 7-7 in League Play and 8-10 overall.

May 1, 2018:  Hempfield 10, J.P. McCaskey 5

Nick Fiore's RBI single to right plated Ty Vaughn in the top of the 8th inning and set the stage for an inning where Hempfield would send ten batters to the plate and score a decisive five runs in the extra frame.

Hempfield scored the game's first run in the top of the 1st inning.  Cole Houser was hit by a pitch and advanced on a single by Ty Vaughn, scoring later on a fielders choice ground out.  In the top of the 2nd, Cole Houser's single to right brought in Christian LaBarbera and Luke Fiore, who had reached on singles.  Conner Waughtel scored later in the inning.  The fifth run scored on Nick Fiore's solo home run to left center field in the 3rd inning.  It was all the runs Hempfield would muster until the 8th inning.

McCaskey scored two runs in the home 2nd inning when Evan Proulx doubled to left field with two outs with runners at 2nd and 3rd.  The Red Tornado scored their third run when Alex Dominguez was hit by a pitch, advanced on a single and walk, and scored on a defensive error.  In the 5th, the first two Red Tornado runners reached on a walk and a hit batter and would score on a two out double to right center off the bat of Dominguez which tied the game.

Andrew Blough relieved starter Eric Sipling and reliever Luke Fiore, pitching a scoreless 7th and 8th inning.  Blough pitched around a two out double in the 7th and a lead off walk in the 8th to earn his first win for Hempfield.

The JV Knights were winners by a score of 10-4.

With the win, Hempfield improves to 7-6 in League Play and 8-9 overall.

The win is the 780th for the Hempfield Baseball Program.

April 30, 2018:  Manheim Township 8, Hempfield 6

Manheim Township used a two-run 1st, two-run 3rd, three-run 4th and one-run 5th inning to tilt the scales in a back and forth contest with the visiting Hempfield Black Knights.  Township's last run scored in the bottom of the 5th - their 8th - and it would hold up despite Hempfield putting the tying runs aboard in the bottom of the 7th.  On a day when the offenses combined for 26 hits it was the Blue Streaks holding on for the win.

Hempfield would take a short-lived lead in the top of the 4th inning as Seth Constein walked and C.J. Saylor, Cole Houser, Ty Vaughn and Justin Lichtenwalner singled consecutively to take a 5-4 lead.  Township would answer with three of their own in the home half of the inning, leading 7-5.  The Black Knights answered with a run in the top of the 5th when C.J. Saylor singled to bring home Christian LaBarbera.

The JV Knights fell by a score of 13-0.

Hempfield is 6-6 in League Play and 7-9 overall.

April 26, 2018:  Ephrata 6, Hempfield 4

Ricky Bromirski led off the game with a triple to left center field and scored on Adam Schwartz's sacrifice fly to right field to make the score 1-0 in favor of the visiting Ephrata Mountaineers.  Hempfield answered with four runs of their own in the bottom of the 1st inning.  C.J. Saylor, Nick Fiore, Cole Houser and Ty Vaughn all reached and scored in the inning.  However, it would be the only time the home team crossed the plate on the afternoon as Ephrata starter Hunter Johns settled in, retiring nine in a row at one point in the early going.

Johns was relieved by Nate Young in the sixth inning.  Young faced six batters and recorded five outs to earn the save.  Ephrata scored its second run on an RBI fielders choice ground out in the 4th inning and broke ahead for good in the 5th inning.  The Mountaineers scored four runs on only one single in the inning; Ephrata took advantage of two walks, a hit batter and a defensive error.

The JV Knights were winners by a score of 6-4.

Hempfield is now 6-5 in League Play and 7-8 overall.

April 23, 2018:  Solanco 7, Hempfield 6

Joel McGuire's two RBI single to left field brought in runs 6 and 7 for Solanco, who defeated Hempfield in walk-off fashion.  Trailing 6-4 with a runner on first and two outs, Solanco took advantage of an error, a walk and a hit batsman before McGuire's single sealed the game.

Christian LaBarbera made the most of an emergency start on the mound, pitching into the 5th inning before being relieved by Cole Houser.  LaBarbera allowed three runs, all of which were unearned.  He struck out three, walked three and allowed five hits.

The Black Knights jumped out to a 3-0 lead.  Seth Constein scored the game's first run in the 2nd inning after scoring from second base on Christian LaBarbera's RBI double to right field.  In the 5th inning Hempfield pushed across two more runs when C.J. Saylor and Nick Fiore were brought home by a 2-RBI single from Cole Houser.

Solanco answered in the home 5th, taking advantage of two Hempfield errors and three singles to push across four runs and take a one run lead into the 6th.  Hempfield added three runs in the 6th inning as Luke Fiore, Christian LaBarbera and Brad Paup singled and scored on a sacrifice fly from Nick Fiore and a single from Cole Houser.  Houser retired the side in the Solanco 6th, but in the 7th inning the Black Knights could not record the game's 21st out before the winning run scored.

The JV Knights were winners by a score of 8-2.

Hempfield is now 6-4 in League Play and 7-7 overall on the season.

April 21, 2018:  Lower Dauphin 3, Hempfield 1

In a hard fought, tightly contested ball game it was Lower Dauphin plating two runs in the top of the 7th that was the difference.  The visiting Falcons scored in the top of the 4th inning.  With Derek Wyld at first base and two outs, the Falcons drew three consecutive walks to push across the game's first run.  The single tally would hold up until the top of the 7th inning.  Jarek Bacon's bases loaded single brought in two more runs to widen the lead to 3-0.  Bacon was at the plate after an infield error, a single and a walk.

Hempfield had opportunities to score.  But every time Ryan Kutz was in a jam he found a way to escape:  Hempfield left the bases loaded in the first inning and had runners in scoring position in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th innings.  In the 7th, the Black Knights loaded the bases with none out.  Seth Constein drew a walk and C.J. Saylor and Cole Houser followed up with singles.  Hempfield would score a run on a sacrifice fly before the game ended with the tying runs on the bases.

The JV Knights were winners by a score of 4-2.

Hempfield is now finished with its Non-League Schedule.  The Black Knights are 6-3 in League Play and 7-6 overall.

April 20, 2018:  Lampeter-Strasburg 11, Hempfield 5

Lampeter Strasburg pulled away from Hempfield after breaking open a 5-5 tie in the top of the 7th inning, sending nine batters to the plate and scoring six runs to prevail 11-5.

The vising Pioneers struck first when their first three hitters reached via two singles and a walk.  Kris Pirozzi's sacrifice fly scored Dylan Beiler; the next two runs were scored on wild pitches.  Hempfield answered with a run in the home half of the first inning when C.J. Saylor and Cole Houser reached on base hits.  Saylor scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Conner Waughtel.  In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Saylor led off with a single and scored on Justin Lichtenwalner's home run.

The Pioneers scored an unearned run in the 4th inning and Hempfield answered with two in the 5th when Cole Houser doubled home Seth Constein; Houser later scored Hempfield's 5th run on a balk.

With two outs and no one on base in the top of the 6th, Aaron Snyder and Hunter Cunningham both doubled to tie the game.  Cole Houser entered in relief of starter Eric Sipling to record the final out and maintain the tie score.

In the top of the 7th inning, Lampeter-Strasburg scored six unearned runs to pull away from the Black Knights.

The JV Knights were winners by a score of 8-2.

The loss drops Hempfield's League record to 6-3 and 7-5 overall.

April 19, 2018:  Hempfield 13, Conestoga Valley 7

The game's football-like final score was appropriate due to the football-like temperatures that the game was played in.  In a back-and-forth offensive battle it was Hempfield pulling away in the middle innings to outlast a persistent Conestoga Valley squad.

The Black Knights pounded out 13 hits over six innings of offense.  After seeing their 2-0 lead become a 3-2 deficit, Hempfield went to work in the 3rd inning and loaded the bases before Luke Fiore's double scored Justin Lichtenwalner and Conner Waughtel.  This pushed the score to 5-3 in favor of the home team, but Conestoga Valley tied the game in the 4th when the Buckskins defied statistical probabilities with four consecutive hits to plate two runs.

With a 5-5 score in the bottom of the 4th, Hempfield used three hits and four walks to increase the margin to 12-5.  Conestoga Valley capitalized on a Hempfield miscue in the visitor's 5th to tighten the score to 12-7.  In the bottom of the 6th inning, C.J. Saylor connected on a solo home run to the bleachers in left field for Hempfield's final run.

Ty Vaughn endured a relentless Conestoga Valley offense, battling through their line up amidst gale force winds and freezing temperatures.  Vaughn struck out three, walked none, and allowed only three earned runs.  After navigating several momentum swings Vaughn dug deep when it mattered most, retiring the final eight batters he faced.

The JV Knights were winners by a score of 15-0.

With the win, Hempfield improves to 6-2 in League Play and 7-4 overall.

The win is the 779th for the Hempfield Baseball Program.

April 18, 2018:  Hempfield 6, Donegal 1

Justin Lichtenwalner's complete game effort helped propel Hempfield past Donegal on a sunny, seasonable day at R & J Memorial Park on the campus of the historical Milanof-Schock Library in Mount Joy.  Staked to a three run lead in the first inning, Lichtenwalner kept Donegal off the score board until the final inning.  He allowed six hits, struck out five and walked three.

C.J. Saylor and friends started the game with high energy.  Saylor greeted the first pitch of the game with solid contact, sending it to left center field for a lead off double.  Cole Houser singled Saylor to third and Ty Vaughn reached to load the bases.  Justin Lichtenwalner's single to center plated Saylor and Houser, and Conner Waughtel's RBI sacrifice fly to right field brought home Vaughn.  Hempfield would have scoring opportunities in the 2nd, 4th, 5th and 7th innings but it was only in the 6th that runs were achieved.  Nick Fiore's RBI sacrifice scored Conner Waughtel, who reached when he was struck by a pitched ball.  With two outs and runners at second and third, Seth Constein's clutch double to left field scored Alec Santiago and Jayden Ruby to push across the 5th and 6th runs for Hempfield.

Donegal did not go quietly.  Drew Bechtold led off the 7th with a walk, and singles from Kyle Burger and Kyle Hess loaded the bases with one out.  Bechtold scored on an RBI fielder's choice before Lichtenwalner retired the last batter on a fly out to Brandon Husted in right field.  Hess, Dale Houser and Kyle Burger each had two hits for Donegal.

The JV Knights were winners by a score of 2-1.

April 12, 2018:  Hempfield 5, Elizabethtown 2

Starting pitchers Chad Caley (Elizabethtown) and Eric Sipling (Hempfield) traded turns pitching masterfully and keeping both offenses in check in the early phases of the game.  It would be Hempfield, however, pushing across two runs in the sixth and two runs in the seventh to prevail as winners on a warm, breezy day at Dean Kroesen Field on the Gene Garber Baseball Complex in Elizabethtown.

Elizabethown landed the first punch when Chad Caley helped himself with a solo home run to left field to lead off the fourth inning and stake the Bears to a 1-0 lead.  Hempfield found the scoreboard in the top half of the 5th when Nick Fiore and Seth Constein singled.  With two outs, Fiore scored on Cole Houser's RBI single to left field to even the game.  In the top of the sixth the Black Knights widened the margin to 3-1.  Alec Santiago started the chaos with a two-out single to center field and Jayden Ruby drew a walk.  Another walk to Nick Fiore loaded the bases before Seth Constein's full count base hit to left field brought home Santiago and Ruby.

Elizabethtown answered in their half of the sixth inning.  After Sipling retired the first two batters of the inning, Nick Kreider doubled to left field and scored on Kyle Welch's single to right.  Solen Clark's double to right center field advanced the runners to second and third and ended Sipling's day.  Cole Houser came on in relief and secured the final out of the inning to keep the score 3-2 in favor of the visitors.  Hempfield scored two more runs in the 7th when Houser led off the inning with a base hit to right field and Ty Vaughn was hit by a pitch.  Brandon Husted (running for Houser) and Vaughn advanced on a wild pitch before scoring on Justin Lichtenwalner's single to center field.  Houser got the first out of the inning in the home 7th before Cayden Livingston singled to left field.  The 20th and 21st out of the game came on the next batter as Justin Lichtenwalner turned an unassisted double play to end the game and send the visitors home happy.

The JV Knights won by a score of 4-0.

With the win, Hempfield moves to 4-2 in League Play and improves to 5-4 overall.

The win is the 777th for the Hempfield Baseball Program.

April 11, 2018:  Hempfield 5, Penn Manor 4

The Black Knights escaped the unfriendly confines of Comet Field with a hard fought, nail biting one run win behind the complete game pitching of hurler Ty Vaughn.  Vaughn battled through 7 innings allowing single runs in the first and third frames before getting through a frenzied Comet rally in the 7th.  Penn Manor pushed two runs across in the final frame and left two runners in scoring position when the 21st out was recorded.  Vaughn worked efficiently in earning a rare high school complete game, scattering 12 hits while walking one.  He struck out five Comet batters.

It was C.J. Saylor and friends getting Hempfield on the score board early.  Saylor singled to lead off the game and scored on Ty Vaughn's triple to deep center field.  In the second inning Seth Constein's RBI ground out scored Alec Santiago, who doubled to right field to lead off the inning.  Hempfield scored three runs in the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie.  Jayden Ruby and Nick Fiore both reached on singles and scored on a two-RBI single from C.J. Saylor.  Saylor scored on a double off the bat of Cole Houser to push the margin to 5-2.

The Comets were led offensively by Ryan Glenn and Dylan Frey who had three hits a piece; Josiah Snyder and Dalton Landis each had two hits.

The JV Knights were winners as well, winning 8-3.

With the win, Hempfield moves to 3-2 after its first time through Section One and evens the overall record to 4-4.

The win is the 776th for the Hempfield Baseball Program.

April 10, 2018:  Hempfield 8, Manheim Township 3

Justin Lichtenwalner took the ball and gave the Black Knights exactly what they needed: a dominating pitching performance.  Lichtenwalner worked through six and two thirds of an inning before ceding to Cole Houser, lest his arm be injured from the quantity of pitches thrown during the contest.  He struck out nine, walked two and threw first pitch strikes to 18 of the 28 batters he faced.  Houser pitched to one batter in the 7th inning, inducing a long fly ball to Seth Constein in center field to end the game.

Hempfield jumped out to a 2-0 lead when C.J. Saylor walked and Cole Houser doubled him home; Houser would later score on a fielders choice ground out.  The Black Knights added four more in the 4th inning as Nick Fiore and Seth Constein both reached base and scored on RBI hits from Saylor and Houser - both of whom would come around to score in the inning.

Manheim Township pushed runs across in the sixth and seventh innings.  Josh Long doubled to left field and scored on a single off the bat of Colin Yablonski.  In the 7th inning, Ben DeMarco and Colin Morrisette reached on singles.  DeMarco scored on an RBI single from Rece Bender, and Morrisette would come around on a wild pitch for the Blue Streaks' final run.

The JV Knights prevailed by a score of 10-5.

With the win, Hempfield moves to 2-2 in League Play and 3-4 overall.

The win is the 775th for the Hempfield Baseball Program.

April 9, 2018:  Warwick 10, Hempfield 3

Warwick pushed across runs in the second, third and fourth innings to pull away from the visiting Hempfield Black Knights, 10-3, on a snowy and cold day in Lititz.

After falling behind 3-0 the Black Knights let an opportunity elude their offense when they left the bases loaded in the third inning after scoring one run; the visitors did the same thing in the fourth inning as well.  Justin Lichtenwalner led the offense, reaching base safely all four times at bat.

The JV Knights were victorious 8-3.

The loss drops Hempfield to 1-2 in League play and 2-4 overall.

April 6, 2018:  Hempfield 9, Cedar Crest 3

Hempfield got back to playing baseball.  The Black Knights put runners on the bases in all seven innings, pushing runs across in the 2nd (4), 4th (1), 5th (1), 6th (2) and 7th (1) to leave Cornwall with a 9-3 win over the host Falcons.

C.J. Saylor led the Black Knights' 'panic' offense with three hits and scored three times while also driving in two runs.  Cole Houser and Seth Constein contributed with multi-hit days, while the entire production line reached base at least once:  Ty Vaughn, Justin Lichtenwalner, Conner Waughtel, Alec Santiago, Jayden Ruby and Nick Fiore.

Cedar Crest answered with their own offense by scoring single runs in the 3rd, 4th and 5th innings.  Nate Trovinger, Luke Hains and Nate Cavic batted in the Falcons' three runs.  The pesky Falcon line up also saw each of their nine batters reach base at least one time against the Black Knights pitching staff.

Speaking of pitching, Ty Vaughn worked through five innings before turning the ball over to Brandon Husted for the final two frames.  Husted's appearance was memorable as it was six up and six down in the last two innings, striking out three of the six batters he faced.

The JV Knights were victorious, winning by a score of 10-1 and improving to 3-0 on the season.

With the win, Hempfield evens their League record at 1-1 while improving to 2-3 on the season.

The win is the 774th for the Hempfield Baseball Program.

April 5, 2018:  J.P. McCaskey 10, Hempfield 2

J.P. McCaskey pushed across four runs in the first inning and never looked back en route to a 10-2 victory for the visiting Red Tornado.  McCaskey pushed their first run across without putting a ball in play as the first four batters of the game walked.  Noah Bergey's fielder's choice plated the Red Tornado's second run before Evan Proulix connected on a two-RBI single to score the third and fourth run.

Hempfield answered with a threat in the home half of the second inning.  Conner Waughtel and Jayden Ruby reached on singles and Luke Fiore walked to load the bases.  Seth Constein's two-RBI double to left field cut the lead in half but it was all that Hempfield would add in the inning as the next three batters were retired.

McCaskey would add a single run in the third inning, two more in the fifth and three in the sixth as they put runners on the bases in each inning but the seventh.

Noah Bergey relieved McCaskey starter Dylan Esh in the sixth inning.

The JV Knights were victorious, winning by a score of 7-3.

The loss means that Hempfield opens up Section One play with an 0-1 record and is now 1-3 on the season.

March 31, 2018:  Wilson 5, Hempfield 4

Wilson jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the 3rd inning.  The Bulldogs loaded the bases on a single, infield error and a walk before Damaurys Rodriguez walked to plate the game's first run.  Tucker Sanders' RBI fielders choice brought in the second run and a two-RBI double from Kriz Perez scored two more.

Hempfield answered with four runs of their own in the bottom of the 4th inning.  Cole Houser singled to left field and Ty Vaughn reached on an infield error.  Consecutive walks to Justin Lichtenwalner and Alec Santiago pushed across Hempfield's first run and Ty Vaughn scored the second run on Conner Waughtel's RBI ground out.  Lichtenwalner and Santiago would tie the game by scoring on wild pitches.

The Bulldogs scored the decisive run in the 6th inning as Preston Kauffman walked and Matt Fiorini reached when the Black Knights did not execute sound bunt defense.  The pair were sacrificed to third by Conner Uhrigh before Cameron Weigland's sacrifice fly scored Kauffman - Weigland's fly out was caught brilliantly by a diving Seth Constein in right-center field.

Hempfield rallied in the 6th and 7th innings - putting runners on the bases - but were unable to push any more runs across.

Collin Foster, Grant Miller and Tucker Sanders toed the rubber for Wilson while Eric Sipling got the start for Hempfield and was relieved by Brandon Husted and Justin Lichtenwalner.

There was no JV game.  The JV game vs. Wilson will be played next Saturday, April 7th at Wilson.

The loss drops Hempfield's record to 1-2.

March 29, 2018:  Dallastown 2, Hempfield 1

Dallastown's Nick Parker went the distance on the mound for the visiting Wildcats to lead the reigning 6A District 3 Champions to their first win of the season.  Parker allowed five hits and only one run, striking out nine and walking two batters.

Hempfield countered with Ty Vaughn, who worked through adversity brought on by the defense in the first two innings.  Vaughn pitched through six innings before turning the ball over to Brandon Husted who threw a 1-2-3 7th inning.  Dallastown scored their two runs in the second inning.  Peyton Fox led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a outfield error; Trent Rowland's line out to right field sacrificed Fox to third where he would then score on a slow roller to third base off the bat of Ian Ness.  Ness reached first base on the play and, after stealing second base, scored on Darren Sciortino's two-out RBI single.  Only three Wildcat batters would reach base in next five innings but their two runs held up as Hempfield struggled to get on track offensively.

There was no JV game.  The JV game vs. Dallastown will be made up on April 28, 2018.

The loss evens out Hempfield's record at 1-1.

March 27, 2018:  Hempfield 9, Governor Mifflin 3

Hempfield scored runs in bunches, combining for nine total runs after scoring three runs in the 3rd, four runs in the 5th and two runs in the 6th, to defeat the visiting Governor Mifflin Mustangs on a cloudy, windy, wet day in Landisville.

Justin Lichtenwalner pitched through six innings prior to turning the ball over to Cole Houser in the seventh.  Both pitchers battled through constant pressure throughout the seven innings as 16 Mifflin runners reached base and the lanes were clogged with Mustangs every inning.

C.J. Saylor, Cole Houser and Justin Lichtenwalner reached base multiple times.  Saylor, Houser, Ty Vaughn, Seth Constein, Brad Paup and Brandon Husted scored runs for the Black Knights.

The JV Knights were victorious, winning 7-2 to start the season 1-0.

Hempfield begins the season 1-0.  The win is the 773rd for the Hempfield Baseball Program.
