Tom Getz, Head Baseball Coach 1977-2006

Coach Getz led the Black Knight Baseball Program for 29 years, from 1977-2006.  He guided the Black Knights to nine Section Titles (83, 93, 95, 96, 97, 00, 01, 03, 05) and six Lancaster-Lebanon (L-L) League Titles (96, 97, 98, 99, 04, 05).  The streak of four L-L League titles in a row is an unprecedented feat in the history of L-L Baseball and will likely never be duplicated.  Coach Getz's 2004 Hempfield team won the District 3 Championship on their way to posting an impressive 25-5 record that season.  It was Hempfield's first District Championship; 2004 was statistically the best season in Hempfield Baseball History.  In 29 years as the Head Baseball Coach, Getz's teams had a losing record in only four seasons.

Coach Getz's players were successful on and off the playing field.  Many players went on to play collegiately after their Black Knight careers were over, and many of Coach Getz's players still hold school records for their offense, defense and pitching performances.  Coach Getz's pitchers authored nine No-Hitters and one Perfect Game during his tenure.

Coach Getz's career record of 423-211 makes him winningest Baseball Coach in the history of the L-L League.  Additionally, he has won more Section Titles and L-L League Titles than any other baseball coach in L-L League history.

In addition to being the Head Baseball Coach, Coach Getz was the Head Football Coach at Hempfield from 1997-2006.  His teams amassed a 63-40 record and won the Section One Title in 1998 and 2005.  He was honored as the L-L League's Football Coach of the Year in 2005.

Coach Getz retired from teaching at Hempfield after 33 years in 2007.
