The 1999 Lancaster-Lebanon League Championship Game appropriately featured the two best teams in the League: Cedar Crest entered the game with a 21-1 record; Hempfield with a 19-2 record. Cedar Crest defeated Hempfield in their first matchup, 8-4, on April 15th, 1999. In their second game, May 7th, 1999, Hempfield bested the Falcons 11-4. Hempfield's only other loss that spring, prior to playoffs, came on May 10th, 1999, at Penn Manor. Both Hempfield and Cedar Crest were highly regarded not only in the Lancaster-Lebanon League that year, but also state wide. On May 6, 1999, Sportsfever Magazine had ranked Cedar Crest #2 in the State and ranked Hempfield #7 in the State. They faced off for the League Title just 14 days later.
Behind the pitching of junior Aaron Herr, Hempfield cruised to the Lancaster-Lebanon League title, which was an unprecedented 4th in a row. Herr struck out five and walked four en route to a complete game victory.
